The City of Newman Grove

The City of Newman Grove has a current population of about 721. The citizens elect a mayor and four city council members that serve a term of four years. The City Council meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall at 606 Hale Avenue. The City employs one full-time city clerk/treasurer, one full-time utility superintendent and part-time maintenance workers, a library director and a part-time librarian, a janitor, and seasonal pool manager and lifeguards. The City of Newman Grove contracts the Madison County Sheriff’s Department for policing services. Please call (402) 454-2110, the department has 24-hour officers available.

Water/Sewer/Trash

Provide the list of items below to the City Clerk’s Office located at 606 Hale Avenue, Newman Grove, NE 68758. Office hours are 8 AM to 4 PM Wednesday through Friday. City Clerk is available by phone (402) 447-6444, or email (sauge@cityofnewmangrove.com) Monday and Tuesday 8 AM-4 PM. A drop box is provided when the office is not open.

Payments can be made by ACH, mail, drop box, credit/debit card (http://ne.gov/go/newmangrovecityne) or at city office during regular business hours. Pay by the due date to avoid the $25.00 late fee.  Utility deposit can be made by credit/debit card.

96 Gallon Trash Totes are provided at each residence and must be used. Pick up is Monday mornings at the residence specified location. Only trash in the totes will be picked up. Please contact City Office for an additional tote or Bud’s Sanitary for additional trash.

Electricity

Loup Power District, a wholesale power customer of Nebraska Public Power District, provides electric service to the City of Newman Grove. Newman Grove has a Loup Power Office located on Hale Ave.  Newman Grove’s principal source of power supply is from a 34,000-volt substation located on the Southeast corner of Newman Grove. Cornhusker Power and Elkhorn Rural Public Power service our rural areas.

Gas Service

Black Hills Energy provides natural gas services to Newman Grove. You will need to contact the company for services.

Miscellaneous City Information and Forms

Animal Ownership

Newman Grove Dog license can be purchased from the City Office. City Ordinance requires animals to be vaccinated for rabies yearly. Please provide the veterinary certificate. The fees are as follows:

Building or Updating

The City of Newman Grove operates under Madison County Zoning, located in Norfolk, NE. Building Permits can be obtained from jointzoneplan@madisoncountyne.com

City Camping Rates

Nine full-service camp sites are located at the City Park. No reservations, first come first serve. The sites are adjacent to the park restrooms, playground, walking trail, swimming pool, and golf course. Payment can be made at the City Office during stated office hours or left in the City Office drop box. The rates are:

$20/night or $120/weekly

Portable Event Picnic Table Rentals

Portable benches are available for use by anyone in the community of Newman Grove. The benches were constructed from funds received for the recycling bin behind the Mini-Park.

3 Tables – 20′ Long | 1 Table – 30′ Long

Call the City Office at (402) 447-6444 to reserve a bench. $100 cash deposit required (refundable if no damage), and $20 (non-refundable) per table if they go out of town.
